"In this Appalachian folk horror novel, two estranged siblings become trapped in a convenience store under attack by a monster from the mountains who feasts on guilty hearts. Jane has not spoken to her brother Thomas since the accident that nearly killed them both. Their drive home from college through the North Georgia mountains is filled with uncomfortable silence and resentment. But when they make a pit stop at a convenience store, a local man stumbles in, carrying a mutilated body, claiming to have been attacked by a vicious monster. Those trapped in the store are disbelieving, until one tries to leave and is brutally killed. If the local legend is true, there's a beast in these mountains that feasts on guilty hearts . . . and someone among them has lured it out of hiding. The siblings have their secrets, but so do the other patrons, and as the monster claims more victims, the group turns on each other, desperate to save themselves by uncovering the guiltiest among them. To survive the night, Jane and Thomas must overcome their shattered past before they become the monster's next victims - or worse, become monsters themselves"-- Provided by publisher.
